It wasn't unexpected: the makers of Shiki didn't resolve a certain cliffhanger before the dreaded three week break.
But the extended preview that played through the ending credits makes it infinitely more difficult to keep away from the manga! (Must resist!!)
On that dreaded hiatus though...I can't confirm it yet (should know by Wednesday next week, when the following Tuesday's broadcast schedule is up on the station website), but it seems that we'll be seeing episode 12 at the end of THIS month, courtesy of Kansai TV. (source)
