Or, in Japanese, 「妹好きなんてのは、実際妹がいない奴の幻想だ」

Sound familiar? Araragi Koyomi, of course.

Given that I haven't actually read any of the novels since #8, I'll have a bit more to say once I've finished the anime, but for the moment, that's my reaction to the Oreimo ending.

That was my reaction. I don't mind so much as I don't like how the subject is being dealt with, at least in the anime.
Granted I didn't have time to watch the last 2 episodes recently, but I wrote about it in my ep 10 post that the second season might have been better off with 2-cours. I have only read spoilers and discussion on the novels after the first season ended, but this all feels really rushed and I'm not buying Ayase's affections either. Might change my mind, one things for sure, I need to take this series less seriously. (^_^;)
At least the show gave me Saori and Kuroneko. And I like Kanako too, as a cute character at least.

Yeah, I totally agree. I stopped reading the novels because it felt like the author was stalling a little with the short story ones, and then the summaries for subsequent novels struck me as such a departure from what I liked about the earlier novels, that I figured I'd just wait. I'm actually not even sure I'll end up finishing the anime - I haven't seen the last 3 episodes yet!

And while not completely worth the hours I've spent on it, I will fondly remember Saori and Kuroneko too (and her gorgeous little sisters!).

I wrote a little on OreImou in my recent post on WP, if you have time, please check it out, I'd like to know your opinion since you followed the novels at least to a point. I wrote a bit about AnoHana and Clannad too and since you are familiar with Japanese people in general, I would like to what you think.
As for the last 3 episodes through TV broadcast. they were better than expected, but can't really make up for my issues.
